My travels back to University were quick. Without my team slowing me down, I made it back, only missing one day of class. I got back to my dorm with the New Moon in the sky. It was perfect, a sign of the clean state that I needed after my interaction with the King.

I had to get my head on straight. I was foolish for acting so rashly, but I was so desperate to prove myself and my loyalty to the King that I went in blindly.

It wouldn’t happen again.

Dropping my pack off on my bed, I grabbed my hygiene items and made my way to the shared ensuite, hoping for a warm bath to soothe my aching muscles. I entered it, only to find a very naked Suede holding a mirror to his crotch and a razor in the other hand.

“What the fuck!” I exclaimed, and I dropped everything in my hands to cover my eyes.

“It’s called man-scaping, bro. Get with the times.”

“Suede, if you don’t put your dick away right now, I’m going to burn it off,” I seethed.

I heard the sound of water washing out his razor, and I had to hold back the bile that found its way to the back of my throat. If I find a single pube in that sink, I’m still burning his dick off.

He wrapped his towel around himself and grunted at me to let me know he was covered up.

“How did the meeting with the King go?” he asked.

I sighed, not wanting to get into it. “Not well.”

“Oh-kay…” He replied, drawing out the syllables. “Well, I left your razor on the counter for you,” he said, winking and exiting the ensuite.

“Oh, than-, wait for a goddess-damned second.” I turned to him, but he was already gone, the sound of his laughter mocking me.

I turned to the sink and cringed at the razor sitting on the sink. I could see leftover hairs on the blades. With a flick of my fingers, the razor lit on fire and, in only a matter of seconds, turned to ash.

I started the water to fill the tub and undressed. I looked my bare chest over in the mirror. Deep purple bruising covered my side going from the pit of my arm all the way down to my ribs. I turned, looking at my back, and the whip marks that scabbed over still felt fresh and stung. These were my parting gifts from the King, to drive home what my failure would mean.

I took the beating and whipping, forcing myself to stay silent and my face unreadable. It was a punishment I was willing to endure, but I would ensure it wouldn’t happen again.

I dropped into the tub, arching my back and stifling a scream when the hot water hit the sensitive skin on my back. I took my time washing, trying to let the soap clear the dust of travel from my skin and the thoughts drilling into the back of my head.

I needed to get more information on the Insurgents here.
